  • It now seen as a global necessity to collaborate across borders to protect a society based upon digital infrastructure against cyber risk
  • Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo: “As Italy’s national cyber champion, a partner of choice internationally and a cyber technology leader, Leonardo is ready to use its expertise to strengthen Europe’s capacity for cyber-resilience, taking a holistic approach to safety issues.”

Cybertech Europe (https://italy.cybertechconference.com/) is an international event dedicated to digital security, organised in partnership with Leonardo. Tomorrow marks the opening of the fourth annual edition of the conference in Rome. Leonardo’s CEO Alessandro Profumo will open proceedings with a speech highlighting the need to strengthen cooperation between industry, civil organisations and allied nations to counteract cyber security risks and preserve Europe’s strategic and technological autonomy.

Studies show that at a global level, the number of serious cyber-attacks has multiplied by ten in the last two years compared to the previous period, with 1,552 attacks in 2018 alone. Cyber espionage and other crimes with a geopolitical or industrial objective, including theft of intellectual property, have seen a 57% rise. In response, the computer security market is booming, with its global value expected to reach around 180 billion dollars by 2021.

Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo, said “The significant increase in cyber attacks in recent years requires more effort in terms of resources to be allocated to Cyber Security. The fact that the cost of cyber threats are increasing faster than investments is creating a dangerous spiral that puts autonomy and national security and a society based on digital infrastructure at risk. Leonardo, Italy’s national cyber champion, a partner of choice internationally and a cyber technology leader, is ready to support a comprehensive response. We are ready to build an infrastructure and use our expertise to strengthen Europe’s capacity for cyber-resilience, taking a holistic approach to safety issues.”

At Cybertech Europe, Leonardo’s experts will attend several conference sessions and deliver live demos in a dedicated exhibition space. These will include an analysis of the cyber scenario, an introduction to the company’s ‘cyber range’ training capabilities, and a number of talks on how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented reality, block-chain, big data & analytics and virtualisation and simulation techniques can be brought to bear to support digital security.
