Ready for Today’s and Tomorrow’s Missions

The NH90 is a twin-engine, medium-size helicopter program managed by the joint venture NHIndustries, a Company owned by Leonardo Helicopters, Airbus Helicopters and GKN Fokker. The NH90 helicopter programme is the largest ever launched in Europe. It has been developed to meet the needs of military operators worldwide. It encompasses Tactical Transport and Naval versions, distinguished by the presence of specialised on-board mission systems.

Missions & Features

Mission capability

The Tactical Transport Helicopter (TTH) variant is designed for high manoeuvrability and survivability in Nap of the Earth (NOE) operations and is ideal for tactical transport (16 to 20 troops or material), Special Operations, Search & Rescue, Medical Evacuation (with 12 stretchers), Counterterrorism, Command and Control, Parachuting, VVIP transport and Disaster Relief support.

Outstanding technology

The NH90 is equipped with a full glass cockpit and an advanced Fly-by-Wire Flight Control. A state-of-the-art integrated avionic suite, along with mission systems and data fusion increase the speed and accuracy of analysed data and reduce pilot workload.

Inherent safety and survivability

The TTH version is optimised for low signatures (acoustic, radar, infrared) and is equipped with a night vision system (Forward Looking Infra-Red, Night Vision Goggles, Helmet Mounted Sight & Display). Other features include weather radar, digital map, obstacle warning system, wire cutters, armoured pilot seats, defensive aids suite and counter measures.

Maximum cabin flexibility

The spacious, unobstructed cabin features sliding doors and provides flexibility for a multitude of applications. As an option, the TTH can be equipped with a rear-loading ramp to accommodate a light transport vehicle and further ease access and egress of troops, personnel and survivors.

Mission capability

The NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) variant is primarily conceived for autonomous Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare missions. The NFH is used for the detection, identification, tracking and attack of submarines or surface targets by day and night. Additional applications include Maritime Surveillance, Antipiracy and Counterterrorism, Intelligence gathering, Vertical Replenishment, Search and Rescue, MEDEVAC/CASEVAC Troop Transport and Special Operations.

Outstanding technology

The NH90 is equipped with a full glass cockpit and an advanced Fly-by-Wire Flight Control. Moreover, the NFH variant has the capability to carry out the mission with a crew of three thanks to the reduced workload provided by maximum integration of the flight control system, basic and mission avionics. State-of-art mission systems and data fusions increase the speed and accuracy of analysed data and reduce crew workload.

Inherent safety and survivability

The NH90 features a crashworthy fuselage combined with ballistic-tolerant design, self-sealing tanks and redundancy of all main systems, armour protection and advanced self-protection. Harpoon deck-lock, castoring nosewheel, automatic blade/tail folding system and proven deck handling system ensure safe ship operations in day/night and adverse weather and sea conditions.

Maximum cabin flexibility

The NFH can be operated for naval warfare missions day and night with a crew limited to one pilot, one tactical coordinator in the cockpit and one sensor operator at the cabin workstation to manage a comprehensive mission equipment also including sonar and sonobuoy dispenser. A configuration with two pilots and two tactical operators in the cabin is also possible.
