Effective and affordable force multiplier
Multi-role maritime patrol aircraft
Maritime surveillance assets must be highly adaptable. The ATR 72MP is a proven, twin turboprop maritime patrol aircraft capable of tackling the most demanding roles. The ATR 72MP combines a state-of-the-art mission system, fully integrated advanced sensors and a complete communication suite to create an effective and affordable force multiplier with ample growth capability.
Missions & features
The ATR 72MP builds on the reliability, maintainability, low life-cycle cost, and comfort of the ATR 72-600 regional aircraft from which it is derived, together with exceptional Command, Control, Communication, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities.
The ATR 72MP excels in all military maritime surveillance roles, from monitoring sea lanes and fisheries protection, to counter-smuggling, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) patrol, and Search and Rescue (SAR). The aircraft can act as a flying command post and can double as a capable personnel transport in case of emergency. It also performs effectively in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and anti-surface operations.
Enhanced situational awareness
The ATR 72MP provides excellent situational awareness thanks to Leonardo’s advanced Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance (ATOS) mission system. ATOS is at the core of the mission suite and manages the aircraft’s wide array of sensors to provide a clear tactical picture for the mission system operators, with up to four state-of-the-art stations available.
The baseline configuration comprises an advanced, long range, multi-mode surveillance Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar such as state-of-the-art types from Leonardo’s Electronics Division; an electro-optical turret equipped with visible and infrared imaging cameras; an Automatic Identification System (AIS) to locate and identify vessels equipped with AIS transponder; and an Airborne Search And Rescue System Direction Finder (ASARS DF).
Avionic & communication suites
The ATR 72MP avionic suite adds an IFF Transponder, two INS/GPS systems, a Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) system and a cockpit tactical display providing the pilots with mission system data, to the state-of-the-art ATR 72-600 glass cockpit. The communication suite includes different V/UHF and HF radios, a wide band SATCOM system and datalinks to allow easy mission data exchange.
ELINT & DASS
The aircraft can also become an effective Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) platform by adding optional subsystems and equipment. A complete Defensive Aids Sub System (DASS) which protects the platform from radar, IR and laser-guided threats is also available to enable operations in potentially hostile areas.
Thanks to its growth capabilities and modular mission system design, the ATR 72MP can transform into an Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti-Surface unit Warfare (ASuW) asset, by installing a dedicated sensors/subsystems package. This includes a sonobuoy storage and launch system, acoustic subsystem, Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD), store management system and two fuselage pylons to carry up to two lightweight torpedoes.
