Multirole Maritime Patrol Aircraft.

Affordable and reliable eye over the seas

The ATR 42MP combines the reliability, maintainability and low life-cycle cost of its commercial ATR ancestor with a fully integrated state-of-the-art mission system, advanced sensors and a complete communication suite to create an effective and affordable force multiplier optimized for maritime operations. At the heart of the ATR 42MP is its mission system: the Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance System (ATOS), designed and built by Leonardo’s Electronics Division.

Missions & features

Civil derivation

The ATR 42MP Surveyor is developed and built by the Aircraft Division from the airframe of the proven ATR 42 twin-turboprop regional aircraft. Endowed with built-in flexibility and multirole capabilities, the Surveyor is fully civil-certified. The aircraft has been ordered by four air forces and government agencies in three countries: Italy, Nigeria and Libya.

Main roles

Combat proven in service for Maritime Surveillance, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Patrol and SAR (Search And Rescue) over sea and land, prevention of illicit activities, it is also employed for ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance), C2 (Command, Control) and environmental control.

Other roles

The aircraft can also be reconfigured in a few hours to perform various transport missions carrying personnel, paratroopers, cargo, medical evacuation also with biocontainment systems or dropping emergency kits through an in-flight operable door.

Sensors suite & equipment

The suite consists of multi-mode radar, electro-optical IR turret with colour and b/w cameras, Automatic Identification System (AIS), Direction Finder (DF) and video recording equipment. The aircraft is also equipped with large observation windows and fuselage pylons to carry a night searchlight or other equipment.

The Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance System (ATOS), further strengthened by sophisticated navigation and communications systems, includes two operator stations and manages the sensor suite. With its modular architecture, the ATOS allows the entire surveillance system to be easily customized for example by integrating Electronic Support Measures (ESM) or other subsystems and sensors.
