Training Satellite – Aberdeen

Aberdeen Satellite is the home of the Level D – AW189 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) at Dyce Airport Aberdeen, UK.

Located within the Bristow Training Academy facility, this new AW189 Level D FFS is owned by Rotorsim and used by Leonardo Training Academy and Bristow to deliver its range of OEM and Operational training courses to AW189 pilots from around the world.
The FFS is reconfigurable between Search And Rescue (SAR) and oil and gas producer (OGP) aircraft configurations, with a strong focus on training for SAR and OGP operations.

AW189 FFS CAPABILTIES

The Full Flight Simulator is a CAE Series 3000 device.
The AW189 FFS features an AgustaWestland-developed flight dynamics & performance model, avionics and aircraft software modelling, combined with CAE core simulation technologies, including: CAE True six degree-of-freedom (DOF) electric motion system and high-performance vibration platform to replicate vibration cues critical to helicopter pilots; a high-fidelity CAE Medallion-6000 visual system; and a direct projection 210 degree by 80 degree extreme field-of-view dome display system with a specific extension to increase pilot and co-pilot lateral visibility during the short field (e.g. offshore helideck) take-off and landing procedures.

This new AW189 FFS also features important mission kits such as SAR autopilot modes, double rescue hoist and cargo hook  with external cameras, search and weather radar, digital map, Trakka A800 Searchlight, AIS transponder and flotation system.
The AW data & modelling package includes re-hosted helicopter core avionic systems software including the AMMS (Aircraft and Mission Management System), AFCS (Automatic Flight Control System) and DMG (Digital Map Generator). This approach guarantees the maximum fidelity of the simulator.
