Leonardo participates in UTLO ultra trail races

15 October 2021

The UTLO ultra trail races will be held among the beautiful hills surrounding Lake Orta October 15 – 17.

The races will includes six varied distances, a 'vertical' 5 km to the gruelling 100 km, all with a considerable height differentials, ranging from one thousand meters for the shortest section to over five thousand for the 100 km. In a territorial context ranging from lake to mountains, particularly challenging for critical communications, Leonardo makes its solutions for professional communications available to the police forces involved in the event.

Healthcare, managed by the Italian Red Cross, will use the DMR digital radio infrastructure provided by Leonardo, a system in operation for years in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola area. In addition, the service provided by the various teams of operators who will have the task of fully supervising and assisting any latecomers and withdrawn on a 100 km route of mountain paths (thanks to the involvement of the Regional Civil Protection) will be able to communicate with the Race Direction through the regional radio system supplied and maintained by Leonardo. The Police Forces who will ensure the safety of the event will use the recently activated TETRA PIT network in the Piedmont area.

In the race starting area in Omegna (Lungolago Gramsci), Leonardo's IMSS mobile operational unit will also be present as a Command and Control Center, supporting the Red Cross and Alpine Rescue telecommunications means. The mobile workstation will allow the organization to manage all the logistics of the departure / arrival area and the Village with TETRA digital radio connections. The refreshment points along the race will then be equipped with Leonardo's PoC MCX communication devices to ensure a constant audio and video connection with the Race Direction.

Leonardo's presence at UTLO is just the latest example of the company's commitment to first responders, in the most different initiatives involving territories and communities.
