The AW159 is the latest generation multi-role military helicopter, designed benefitting from the development of the Lynx, one of the world's most successful naval helicopters and world speed record holder (over 400 km/h). The AW159 continues the Lynx legacy with improved naval capabilities and performance thanks to the wide range of cutting-edge mission equipment and a multi-role configuration which allows it to perform various types of missions including search and rescue, surveillance and maritime patrolling, in addition to Anti-Submarine Anti-Surface Warfare missions.

The AW159 is the most suitable helicopter to perform naval missions in highly complex scenarios. It is equipped with a state-of-the-art cockpit that is fitted out with four display screens and fully integrated avionics and mission systems, providing the crew with further operational effectiveness and enhanced situational awareness, thanks to a rapid collection and assessment of tactical information.

One of the advantages of the AW159 is a semi-rigid rotor head, which ensures high manoeuvrability, especially in naval operations. Composite rotor blades leverage on the technology that allowed the Lynx to break the world speed record.

The operational advantages of the AW159 can be summarised in its proven ability to take-off and land in extreme environments including hot and high conditions with excellent single engine performance. With a maximum take-off weight of 6,050 kg, the AW159 can carry a range of armaments for a flexible response to tactical situations. The helicopter is fully marinised and optimised for operating from limited spaces on vessels also in high sea states. It is equipped with the latest generation mission equipment including an AESA 360° multi-mode surveillance radar and an Electro-Optical Device.
