Today's criminal organisations are increasingly more active on the global front, both in the physical world and also in cyberspace. To effectively counteract these organisations, which are now deeply rooted and extremely widespread, law enforcement must be able to fight with at least the same level of weapons and have access to powerful and integrated tools that enable them to act simultaneously in both environments (physical and logical) in a coordinated and transnational way.
As well as implying a change in the organisational approach that adopts a concept of “seamless security”, the implementation of this all-round supervision also requires the support of advanced cyber intelligence tools, capable of investigating every corner of the web, an ability to analyse big data, to extrapolate the information of interest and a close coordination with the local operating centres in order to implement effective crime-solving actions. This is why the interoperability and interaction of the various specialised systems assumes strategic importance in every single operation: rapid response and the ability to act on several fronts in a targeted way are other essentials for ensuring that the task is rapidly accomplished. Indeed, the “rapidity” factor is often the key to an operation’s success.
There are many scenarios of use and these concern the protection of critical infrastructures from acts of terrorism; the fight against organised crime; the territory and border control, the security of our cities and big events.
