ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) rating agencies - including RobecoSAM, Sustainalytics, ISS, MSCI and Bloomberg - as well as international organisations - such as CDP and Transparency International - periodically assess Leonardo's sustainability performance and transparency in communication, supporting investors' choices and providing stakeholders with information on the company's commitment to environmental, social and governance issues.
Leonardo has been confirmed Aerospace & Defence Industry leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the second year in a row and it is included for the 11th consecutive year.
Launched in 1999, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are among the most prestigious sustainability indices and include stocks with the best performance in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria at a global level. The annual assessment is carried out through a rigorous evaluation, based on around 100 questions, undertaken by the Swiss asset manager RobecoSAM, now part of S&P Global.
Leonardo has been included also in the Sustainability Yearbook 2021 with the Gold Class distinction for its excellent sustainability performance.
Leonardo has joined the “Climate A List 2020” of the non-profit international organisation CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project), the list that includes world leading companies – out of 5,800-plus companies analysed – in the fight against climate change. The list has been rated by disclosure on impacts, risks, and opportunities that are linked to environmental issues.
The evaluation recognises Leonardo’s commitment to emission reduction, the mitigation of risks linked to climate change, and for the undertaking a careful environmental strategy.
Leonardo participates since 2008 to the activity evaluation performed by CDP.
Leonardo reached Band A, the highest evaluation, of Transparency International’s Defence Companies Index on Anti-Corruption and Corporate Transparency (DCI).
In 2021, following an analysis process of about two years, which considers the main companies in the Defence & Security sector worldwide, the non-governmental organisation recognised the measures implemented by Leonardo, highlighting the adoption of more stringent anti-corruption policies and a significant increase in its level of transparency.
The assessment is based exclusively on the analysis of public information, accessible to all stakeholders, and evaluates 134 companies across the sector from 38 countries.
Leonardo has been included, for the first time, in the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) 2021, a modified market capitalization-weighted index that aims to track the performance of public companies committed to transparency in gender-data reporting. The index measures practices linked to the inclusion and enhancement of diversity, and represents a further tool for investors to assess company performance.
Leonardo obtained the maximum score on the transparency in gender-data disclosure.
In 2021 380 companies have been included in the Index, of which 17 are Italian and 17 from the industrial sector.
Leonardo is included since 2015 in the ECPI Indices, in particular in the ECPI World ESG Equity Index and in ECPI Euro ESG Equity Index.
ECPI is an Italian rating agency specialized in financial and ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) valuation.
