unmanned combat aircraft

Leonardo’s Aircraft Division plays an important role in nEUROn, the programme through which European industry is exploring important new fields including stealth and unmanned combat air vehicles (UCAV), which require strong innovation in both technologies and materials.

Italy is the second largest nEUROn participant, with a 22% share.

As the Italian prime contractor, Leonardo is in charge of the smart bomb bay, the electrical system and various subsystems.

The other participants are France, which leads the programme through Dassault, Sweden, Spain, Greece and Switzerland.

The first nEUROn flight took place on December 1, 2012 from the French experimental test centre at Istres.
