Display cabinet for the conservation of the Shroud of Turin

In 2000, Thales Alenia Space offered its skills to create a display cabinet from a single bar of lightweight aeronautical alloy.

After the fire in 1997 in the chapel by Guarini in Turin, where the Holy Shroud was kept before it was moved into another chapel of the Duomo, the problem of conserving and securing the relic in a special display cabinet arose. In 2000, Thales Alenia Space (then known as Alenia Spazio) offered its skills and technologies in the field of space, creating a display cabinet from a single bar of lightweight aeronautical alloy, monitored by a computerised system designed to detect the parameters of the internal atmosphere.
