Responsible Canteens Programme
The Responsible Canteens Programme involves all Leonardo's Divisions and aims to create a plan for the recovery of food surplus produced by the canteens of the companies for devolution to charity organisations, thus creating resources for the needy.
The Programme stems from the partnership with the Fondazione Banco Alimentare Onlus, with the collaboration of the Division, the suppliers of canteen services and of the “non-profit” organisations that are the recipients of this charity.
This initiative against waste of food is a concrete example of a conscious reuse of food resources, obtained by applying good practices to canteen management, without added costs for the Divisions.
Not only, but beneficiaries also receive an ongoing donation in nature that, aside from responding to important values of solidarity, takes on a constant economic value.
In 2015 donations totalled 184,000 meals, and more than 10 tons of other foodstuff (baked goods, fruit and others) equalling a sum of 380,000 euro contributed in kind.
This year Leonardo has organised its first Company Food Collection involving 27 sites throughout Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Liguria, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania and Puglia.
Employees donated long shelf-life foods (pasta, tins, biscuits, baby food, etc.) for a total of over 12 tonnes that was then donated to the beneficiaries of the Responsible Canteens Programme themselves. The canteen service providers also did not let their contribution be missed.
