Our mission is to innovate

 

Innovation is of prime importance for Leonardo, which bases its competitiveness on cutting-edge technologies and products.


Our culture of innovation is based on a continuous and integrated process of collaboration both internally, between the Divisions, and externally, with universities, institutes and research centres, customers, suppliers and start-ups, to develop new technologies and products together.

In 2017, Leonardo invested about 13% of its profits in Research and Development (over EUR 1.5 billion). Approximately 10,000  employees, from the departments of engineering and technological and product innovation, worked in the field of Research and Development. 33% of our employees are college graduates and 50% have a high-school diploma, with a prevalence in the technical field. We employ approximately 10,000 engineers, mostly aeronautics, aerospace, electronics, mechanics, IT and telecommunications, and over 12,000 specialised technicians.
