On the occasion of the Pope’s first visit to Florence on November 10th, Finmeccanica – Selex ES will provide network and TETRA communication systems for Civil Defence Department staff, the Provincial Committee of Safety and emergency medical services personnel. In doing so, the company will guarantee radio coverage along the entire route and in all areas of the city visited by Pope Francis, allowing for coordinated security management during the day.
150 portable radio terminals will be provided, allowing operators to communicate with each other and with the fixed public telephone network and external mobile phones when needed. GPS receivers in each terminal will also send back location data to a central base of operations made available by Selex ES at the Civil Defence Department headquarters, allowing control staff to monitor the distribution of forces in the field.
A Selex ES team operating out of a mobile centre will support operational activities while another specialized team will provide technical assistance for the duration of the event.
